Basic Knowledge about the Backgammon Board Game
The backgammon board game is a table game between two players, whose main objective is to bear the checkers off the board. Skill is said to be a requirement for a winning experience in this game. Hence its popularity increases, because one can rely on his or her skills not only to win the game, but to win money as well.
The backgammon board game dates as far back to 3000 BC, thereby making it the oldest recorded board game in the history of mankind. The game spread towards Europe and Asia in the form of different variants. During the Medieval Age it was a well-liked game among the French, but was eventually banned because of the game's strong gambling atmosphere. However, when Elizabeth I stimulated an active, leisurely atmosphere towards England, the game was back on its feet. Years later it was codified by a certain Edmond Hoyle, and thus paved the way to modern backgammon. The first World Championships of the backgammon board game was held during the 1960's.
The objective of the backgammon board game is to place the entire player's checkers into the home board and navigate them away from the board. Hence, when an opponent hasn't borne off any of his or her checkers and the player has already won, then the opponent is said to be "gammoned". Alternatively, a "gammoned" opponent is also "backgammoned" when on of his or her checkers is still at the bar or the other player's home board.
The board is comprised of the bar, the points, the home board and the outer board. The triangles, or points, are divided horizontally, indicating both the players' sides. The outer board is beside the home board, which is divided by a thick line called the bar. Basically, the outer board is where most of the checkers pass by before they reach the home board.
Backgammon offers the feature of gambling money. Hence, the doubling cube is an optional but recognized part of the backgammon board game. Such equipment is needed for the inclusion of wagers. Hence, when players feel certain of victory, they offer to double the previous stakes.
Backgammon, backed by its long-time proud history, is still continuing to increase its popularity. Hence, the concept of the backgammon board game will continue to prevail. And as soon as one acquires great patience to master the skill, it is possible that such player will experience great chances of victory.
