Setting Up the Backgammon Board
It is quite easy to assemble a backgammon board set up. Even though the parts of the board show a hint of complexity, arranging the backgammon board is not really as hard as it looks. First-time players find it effortless, and so will you. Hence, here are simple tips to follow when initializing a backgammon board set up.
The first step in arranging the backgammon board set up is to make sure you have the complete equipment. Of course, make sure that you have the board itself. The checkers should be thirty in all, divided into two parts with two distinct colors. Each player should have a pair of dice. The backgammon game is also strict when it comes to rolling the dice, so it is also required to obtain a shaker cup. The doubling cube is optional, and is only required when the two players want to wager some money.
Next, place the backgammon board on a surface level appropriate for playing. Make sure that the table is flat and even, to prevent the checkers from sliding. It is also a requirement for the backgammon game to count the dice that only land flatly on the board. Also, do not forget to decide which color each player prefers.
The backgammon board has four main parts. The thick vertical line that partitions the board is called the bar. The home board, the first half of the board, is where the checkers should be located before being navigated off the board. The outer board is opposite of the home board. It is the part where the checkers traverse to before they reach the home board. Lastly, the points that resemble triangles are the spaces where the checkers move along.
The next step in completing the backgammon board set up is to properly situate the checkers on the home board. There are fifteen backgammon checkers, or discs, for each of the two players.. First, place five checkers on a point within the home board that is nearest the bar. Then, place two discs on your opponent's side on the point within the home board, but farthest to the bar (the point at a corner). Your opponent should mirror your maneuvers and assemble the initial positions on his side.
Then the backgammon board set up is completed as soon as the eight other checkers are properly situated on the outer board. Therefore, on your side, place three checkers on a point within the outer board that is second nearest to the bar. Then, on your opponent's side, place the remaining five checkers on the corner of the outer board. The five checkers should be on the point that is furthest from the bar.
Completing the backgammon board set up is not really very complex. Thus, the details are quite easy to remember - just bear in mind that each initial position on the board is strategically designed to intensify the challenge of the game.
