What is American Acey-Deucey
One very popular and faster-paced version or variant of backgammon is Acey-Deucey. We can say that the game play of Acey-Deucey is faster and in some ways more exciting than the regular backgammon game. Let's look at how different Acey-Deucey is and how the game is played. Since there are different ways to play the game, we'll only discuss American Acey-Deucey as a representative example of the game.
American Acey-Deucey is a favorite among military men since World War I. It's popularity started during these hard times. Let's now take a look at how to play Acey-Deucey.
Here are some of the differences of Acey-Deucey from our regular backgammon game. In Acey-Deucey all our checkers start by entering the board. After determining who rolls first, the player gets to make his move first will reroll the dice for his first turn. In Acey-Deucey the winner of the game gets one point for every checker that his opponent is unable to bear off. Lastly there is no doubling cube in Acey-Deucey.
Let's talk about how to play the game. The object of the game is pretty much like our backgammon game where players race to bear off all checkers. Like our regular game, to start a game of Acey-Deucey players roll one die and the player who gets the higher number goes first. But unlike our regular backgammon game, that player rolls the dice again.
Since all checkers begin by entering the board in Acey-Deucey, they will have to enter on the opponent's home board and bet born off on your own home board. Once a player has entered one or more checkers, his next rolls on the dice can be used to bring in more checkers. He may also opt to move the checkers already on the board or even do both.
Moving checkers in Acey-Deucey is pretty much the same as our regular backgammon game. All regular rules on movement apply in Acey-Deucey. There is only one addition that makes Acey-Deucey checker movement very interesting, and that is if you get a 1-2 roll.
The 1-2 result on the dice in Acey-Deucey is a very lucky one. It is called "acey-deucey" (the name of the game is derived from this result on the dice). When a player gets an "acey-deucey" he gets the following privileges:
1. First, a player moves a One and a Two using regular checker movement 2. Next, that player gets to choose a double roll he wishes to play and does it (more like a bonus move) 3. Make another roll and play the results as a regular move 4. Last, in case the next roll is another acey-deucey that player gets the same privileges all over again
The only exception to this rule in American Acey-Deucey is that if the player can't use either the One or the Two in step one of the acey-deucey roll he gets to forfeit the rest of the opportunities of the roll. The same rule holds if a player can't play all the moves of the double he picked - then he forfeits the rest of the privileges.
The rest of the rules in American Acey-Deucey are typically the same as our regular backgammon game. Try the game, it will be a great and challenging fast-paced shift from regular backgammon.
